Quinta de Valbom - Portugal

This vegan dry red wine from Duoro is made from a field blend of 100 year old vines, traditionally used to make Port, but instead is made as a dry red wine. Like Port, the grapes are hand-selected, fermentation by stomping feet in granite lagares, which are open vats where wine grapes are crushed by foot thus increasing extraction and tannins. Then the wine is aged for 16 months in French oak barrels before aging further in bottle. Aromas of well-ripened red fruits combine with floral and wood notes to create a structured and complex dry red wine.

This wine is from a small winery that is helmed by winemaker Luis Duarte, who has been named 3 times ‘Best Winemaker in Portugal’ and ‘Best Winemaker in the World’ by a German magazine.

Debuting for the first time in the US, this Port wine from small estate winery Quinta de Valbom combines sustainability and tradition to create elegant and exceptional wines.

Produced only during the best harvest years, this ‘Late Bottle Vintage’ Port is aged for 4 years before bottling. Its pleasant balance of fruits and tannins make it great for drinking young and for aging. After a traditional ‘foot treading’ to crush, this port was fermented with the stem before fortification. Then it was barrel aged for four years before bottling.

A wonderful wine to enjoy with rich desserts, it has an intense ruby color and a fruity flavor with floral aromas.
